I've had bronchitis for the past month; it was aggravated on Christmas day because of the rain. I've been really bored recuperating. Going down the coast in a couple of days, hopefully I can get some writing done down there.

It's really a paradox when you look back on old work: you cringe at the awful quality and what you would change if you thought the piece itself was worth revision, however the cringe effect expresses the progress you've made as an "artist".

I'd thought I'd have a nice little rant about how much I hate the AMC series The Walking Dead, but I just can't be fucked. I hate it due to its highly misogynist and racist representation of women and racial minorities. The writing isn't great either. I cannot fathom how this series keeps getting nominated for awards. My only conclusion is that the judging panels are 14-30 year old white males.

So uni's over for the semester and again because I am enrolled in one of the few courses in all Australia that doesn't have exams, I am bored shitless. Everyone else has exams. Everyone is studying. Gah.

So I've taken to trying to watch anything with a decent and coherent plot line. So far this constitutes Once Upon A Time and Madmen. Yes those are the only tv shows at the moment that have coherent plot lines. I shit you not.

Studying creative writing makes it very hard to watch tv, because you realise how shit it really is. Most of these shows lack all types of creative talent, have terrible cliché dialogue, very poor plot lines and cliché story. I don't even specialise in script-writing. I haven't touched anything with script since 2010 and that was because I had too for a subject. But even I know what's on tv is poorly constructed and written. Movies are just as bad, however there always seems to be one a year that makes up for how terrible all the rest were.

Take Prometheus for example, I went into that movie expecting something a little different (I didn't realise it was the prologue to the Alien series. If I did I wouldn't have had any expectations), but it always boils down to the same clichéd laziness.

The aliens want to kill us. That is so boring and has been done a million times. The aliens were represented as heartless, imperialistic monsters. Just like every alien is portrayed in movies. I'm not one for the 'oh the aliens warned us/enlightened us about our wicked ways' either. That's just as overdone.

So I was thinking, how could one break the alien-genre cliché in cinema. After about five minutes of analysing the genre and thinking of writing techniques (honestly, five minutes. I'm not a script-writer and I worked out an answer. Why can't people who are meant to be the best in the craft working out these answers? - Laziness). I thought well the aliens can still kill us, however they are not malicious. There's some biological reason that humans and the aliens cannot coexist. That's why they leave us the hell alone. So humans find aliens, start dying, even try find ways to bridge this problem. Return to earth stating they found nothing. It's not a perfect plot, I'm not a script-writer, but at least that's an original plot. I'm sure some screen-writer could take that idea work with it and make it work for a film structure with climaxes in the right place, character motivations - all that jazz. No one does though.

They write clichés that sell. That is laziness.

Yes, rant over. I promise.

Another thing I wanted to address here to my imaginary audience is why I never post here anymore. Frankly it's because of copyright and publishing laws. Anywhere you post something online, your intellectual property becomes that of the site. Even here on deviatnart where you can click that little I retain all my rights button. That still doesn't work because no the corporation Deviantart doesn't own your work, the person who owns deviantart does.

See what I mean? We did a whole few lectures on intellectual copyright laws in an editing course last semester. I want my works to remain mine unless I choose to give the rights to a certain publication. Usually journals and magazines only take 'first publishing rights' which means you are free to publish in other locations as long as that publication takes previously published works.

Just a little warning to my imaginary audience.

And just for the record: I cannot be fucked editing a online rant.

Enjoy the poor grammar and typos :)!

The art of losing isn't hard to master;
so many things seem filled with the intent
to be lost that their loss is no disaster,

Lose something every day. Accept the fluster
of lost door keys, the hour badly spent.
The art of losing isn't hard to master.

Then practice losing farther, losing faster:
places, and names, and where it was you meant
to travel. None of these will bring disaster.

I lost my mother's watch. And look! my last, or
next-to-last, of three beloved houses went.
The art of losing isn't hard to master.

I lost two cities, lovely ones. And, vaster,
some realms I owned, two rivers, a continent.
I miss them, but it wasn't a disaster.

-- Even losing you (the joking voice, a gesture
I love) I shan't have lied. It's evident
the art of losing's not too hard to master
though it may look like (Write it!) a disaster.

I dropped an eight credit-point subject at uni that had a ridiculous amount of reading that I could keep up with my other subjects.

Having to read an entire novel a week, write a 500 word micro-fiction, read four set micro-fictions a week, write and memories eighteen kanji, do one character of Japanese textbook, assignments and then two chapters from the linguistic textbook (about fifty pages each), plus require reading (usually forty pages), plus homework and mini essays to be submitted each week; frankly I couldn't handle all that work, so I dropped linguistics, which required the last items on the list after 'assignments'.

I can manage the rest, it's not that much when you take away all the linguistic work.

So I'm very relieved at the moment:).

AMANDAAAAA

3 min read
I finally got my email back; recently it had been hacked by a bot.

I am also back in Sydney from spending two weeks down the coast.

I have three days left of uni for the Summer Session!

AMANDA FUCKING PALMER on WEDNESDAY! I there is no words for the excitement I am feeling.

I brought a new dress especially for the occasion:D!

I also brought the her new album and was REALLY surprised to see it in Sanity at Nowra (there's lots of indie kids and emo ergo LOTS of hardcore/crunkcore/screamoetc. but not much awesome music). So I preceded to follow my little brother around the store holding the album and saying 'AMANDAAAAAAAAAA' until he finished his purchase.

Oh in other news Mr. Neil Gaiman and Miss. Amanda Palmer got hitched; may they spawn many demigods in the world of literature and music! They should have their own religion, if google can do it...

Also we had to pick my kitty up from boarding today; we hadn't seen her in two weeks and I think she forgot us:(! But she did fall asleep on my chest a couple of times and she seemed to remember her bed and to hiss at any other cats that come into the backyard wanting food.

We have 'adopted' two other cats in the street; one is a stray and the other is a beautiful Russian Blue whose owners don't give enough love and affection, or food apparently, to. Ergo my mother and I have literally become crazy cat ladies, as we both meow at these cats, crouch down and rub our fingers together to get them to come closer(cats are very curious):P. The stray cat is pregnant and really sick so we've decided to feed her and when she presents us with her kittens we will take them all down to the RSPCA. We got home and there were two kitties at the back door saying 'feed us! why did you  leave us!? give me food bitch or imma bust a cap in yo'ass' or at least something to that affect.

I think I've sufficiently rambled about kitties for long enough. Crazy cat lady should be a professional occupation.
